Winner of the US Election - Driving Downtown to cover a Historic Moment

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

A one min. read of my experience covering the election results!

Here's a creative sign:

"Hey, Trump checkout time is 12 noon!"

To see my work follow this link to my CNN Greece videos and pictures:

And on what you thought was a normal Saturday morning... AP announces the President-elect of the United States.

An hour later, I found myself in the craziest drive ever... I started in Maryland and ended up downtown close to K Street. During my drive, I greeted other drivers, celebrated with other drives, watched drivers dance while driving, and clapped for pedestrians...

Even if you're not an American citizen, if you were in a car yesterday on your way downtown, guarantee someone would put a smile on your face. Everyone was so happy and united. That might not be the reality, but it felt like that for a few hours.

Once I arrived, I headed straight to the White House. I did not encounter competing protests downtown; the White House was barricaded, so I filmed people celebrating on streets nearby. They were holding creative signs, performing dance moves, shouting happy remarks, playing loud music, and crying tears of joy!

I'm so grateful to have been part of this historic day. What a time to be a journalist!

E.K.
